Sinamon Skip Passes
Sinamon Skip, 33, passed away on August 24, 2019. He was the son of Mountain Skipper out of Steady Sinamon.
Sinamon Skip was bred by Arthur Brewer II and owned by Arthur Brewer II and Peter Dineen, who was a lifetime friend of Mr. Brewer. Sinamon Skip was a foal of 1986, and he was foaled in Massachusetts. He had 443 starts with 84 wins, 65 seconds, 64 thirds and lifetime earnings of $336,764. He took his mark of 1:53.3f as a six-year-old at Pompano Park. Sinamon Skip was the second fastest foal of Mountain Skipper and the second highest money earner by his sire.
Sinamon Skip won the Stepping Stone Series in May 1989 at Brandywine Raceway in 1:57; the Palm Beach County Pace in October 1989 at Pompano Park; and the Massachusetts Sire Stakes as an older horse in July 1993 in 1:56.2 at Foxboro.
He raced in multiple states including Massachusetts, Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. He also won on the Maine Fair circuit.
“He was quite a character in his younger years,” said Kath Brewer, the wife of Arthur Brewer II. “Every day when we hooked him to jog, he would rear up straight in the air and then jog right off. He was a great feeling horse and he absolutely loved his job as a racehorse.”
After Sinamon Skip was retired when he was 14, he was turned out at Arthur and Kath Brewer’s farm in Massachusetts and when they moved to Delaware he came along and was retired with their other two retired Standardbreds, Retribution and Try Kacy N. Retribution died a few years ago at 31, while Try Kacy N is still at the Delaware farm and is 28. The three of them were always referred to as ‘the old guys’ and enjoyed being turned out every day in the pasture.
Sinamon Skip also became a buddy horse for all of the Brewers’ foals once they were weaned from their mom. He was an excellent companion and was like a grandpa to them. Whether he was with the old guys or the foals, he loved to be turned out.
“We were honoured to have him,” said Brewer. “He brought a lot of joy into our world and will be sadly missed by all of us. He was definitely our war horse. I’ll miss you Skippy. I hope we gave you the life you deserved. It was an honor taking care of you.”
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Sinamon Skip.
