Barbies Belle Beats The Boys
Barbies Belle ($12.80) vaulted from a stalking trip to beat the boys in the Sunday afternoon (Sept. 1) feature at Leamington Raceway, a $5,800 Preferred 4 Pace.
Michael Clark floated the six-year-old Sportswriter mare into third from post seven, and the pair stalked comfortably while 7-5 favourite Go Mud (Garrett Rooney) controlled splits of :28.4, :58 and 1:28. On the far turn, Clark — who also owns and trains the mare — angled Barbies Belle off the pegs, and the worked up steadily to just reach Go Mud by a head in 1:57.4. Grits N Gravy (Mark Williams) finished third from the pocket, another 2-1/2 lengths in arrears.
The win was the 20th of Barbies Belle's career and her fourth of the season in 18 starts.
Marc St. Louis led all drivers with four wins on the 10-race program, while Alex Lilley recorded three.
