Youaremycandygirl Romps At Mohawk
All eyes – and much of the public’s betting dollars - were on Seaswift Joy N in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace, but Youaremycandygirl unleashed a wicked turn of foot on the final turn en route to posting an eye-catching score in 1:49.1.
With Louis Philippe Roy at the lines, Youaremycandygirl dropped into the three-hole early while Seaswift Joy N shot to the top and chopped out first-half fractions of :27 and :55.4. Roy started up the engine on his mare around the final turn, and in a matter of strides she was alongside Seaswift Joy N and pressing her to the three-quarter pole in 1:23.3.
Youaremycandygirl exploded home in :25.3 to win by 3-3/4 lengths over the 1-2 favourite, Seaswift Joy N. Double A Mint rounded out the top three finishers in the six-mare affair.
Bill Donovan of Delray Beach, FL owns the four-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Sweet Lady Jane, who was making her debut for the multiple O’Brien Award-winning conditioner, Richard Moreau. Sent off at odds of 8-1, Youaremycandygirl won for just the second time this season while pushing her lifetime win total to 20. She’s banked in excess of $1.5 million to date.
