MacDonald Grabs 4,000th Win At Vernon
Driver John MacDonald nabbed his 4,000th career win Saturday evening at Vernon Downs thanks to a victory behind Temple Door.
Needing just a single victory going into the card, MacDonald achieved the feat in the opener with Temple Door. He also tacked on wins with Heavens Storm, Brookdale Bruiser and Sapient Hanover to complete the four-win performance.
The $9,000 featured race on Saturday’s card went to Bettors Edge in 1:50 for driver/trainer Jennifer Lappe.
Bettors Edge ($2.90) charged right to the front and led to the first quarter in :25.3. He kept the fast pace going as he used a :27.4 second quarter to hit the half in :53.2. Dreams Beachboy (Gates Brunet) followed in the pocket and watched as Bettors Edge led to three-quarters in 1:21.
Bettors Edge, who is owned by Lappe with Robert Santagata, withstood the late charge of second place finisher Dreams Beachboy to win in a seasonal best of 1:50. Golden Gun (Claude Huckabone, Jr.) finished third.
Bettors Edge is a 10-year-old gelding by Bettors Delight. It was his third win this season and his 46th career victory.
