An outstanding contingent of 47 Delaware and Maryland-sired yearlings, the largest group to be sold at one time in 2009, will go under the auctioneer's hammer on Friday, October 16 at the fifth annual Winbak Farm Select Yearling Sale

at Winbak Farm's flagship location, Chesapeake City, Maryland.

The list of select yearlings is made of 26 colts and 21 fillies. There are eight different 'First State' stallions representing Delaware's most prolific group of yearlings, while three stallions are featured among eight top-bred, Maryland-sired progeny. The sale will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Since inception, Winbak sires pacer Badlands Hanover and trotter CR Commando have dominated the lucrative Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund program. Winbak Delaware stallions have sired almost all of the lucrative final winners in both two and- three-year-old $100,000 divisions competed at both Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway.

Again this fall, Grand Circuit and Delaware stakes standout Badlands Hanover -- an elite son of the ill-fated Western Hanover -- leads the sale's roster of pacers with three colts and six fillies. Powerful Toy, a fast stakes winning son of Jate Lobell, has seven candidates, four colts and three fillies. Millionaire Three Olives, sired by Jennas Beach Boy has five colts offered. Three Wizzards, a Breeders Crown winning son of Legendary Albatross, has three colts, while Shotgun Scott has two fillies.

There are 13 Delaware-sired trotting yearlings, the highest number ever sold at one sale. Of them, seven are colts and six are fillies. Political Briefing, a major stakes winner at two, has six yearlings in the sale, two are colts and four fillies. All-time leading trotting stallion CR Commando, a World Champion at two, has four candidates, three colts and one filly. There are three by Crown Prince Gar, a stakes winning son of Garland Lobell, with two colts and a filly.

There are eight Maryland-sired yearlings in the sale. Among pacing breds, there are two colts and a filly by Bonnie And Clyde and two yearling colts sired by JK Outlaw. Three trotting fillies by the Terrapin State's emerging trotting standout Tejano, a son of Super Bowl, complete the sale catalogue.

An added advantage for those purchasing a Winbak Delaware-sired or Maryland-sired yearling, is each Winbak-sired yearling is also eligible to the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund stakes.

Again in the 2010 season, the DSBF stakes program offers six events for each yearling at two and then again at three, each with two $20,000 preliminary legs and two $100,000 finals plus $20,000 consolations in each of the four trotting and pacing divisions, at both Dover Downs and at Harrington Raceway.
