Chinnys Wings NA’s Winningest Trotter
The win streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for Chinnys Wings, who triumphed in Western Fair Raceway’s $16,000 Preferred Trot on Monday
.
The four-year-old son of Armbro Ricochet used his off-the-pace skills to perfection for trainer/driver Doug Bowins, who co-owns the gelding with partner Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, AB. He sprinted home in :28.2 to post the 2:00 decision over Upsidedown, who was more than two lengths in arrears, and Home Stretch.
The victory gives Chinnys Wings 18 wins this season in just 25 trips behind the starting gate. That makes him the winningest square-gaiter in North America this season. The $8,000 payday lifted his bankroll to $111,067.
The $16,000 Preferred Pace went to Donegal Gerald, another campaigner that has done his fair share of winning this season. The five-year-old son of Rambaran drew off an impressive score in 1:55 despite being forced to do the first-over work for driver Tony Kerwood. The Dave Matson-trained gelding won by a little more than a length over Monster In Law, with Chevron Hanover rounding out the Triactor ticket.
John Foran of Newmarket, ON holds the papers on the 23-time winner, who now owns a 9-7-4 record in 28 assignments this season. He has banked $254,205 to date.
A drop in class to the $11,500 Preferred-2 level was all the edge Trottin Troy needed to get back on track for trainer Steve Bossence. Dave Wall mapped out a solid trip for the five-year-old son of Chip Chip Hooray, who drew off to win by more than seven lengths in a time of 1:59.1. Classic Lavec was the best of the rest and Kelkatraz rounded out the top three.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, the gelding picked up his eighth win of the season for the Ohio partnership of Parent Racing Stable LLC and Crystal Ball Stables.
Class relief also helped Three Cents right the ship for owners Frank Baker, Jr. and Wray Wilson. After finishing sixth in the $16,000 Preferred class one week ago, the five-year-old son of Mach Three went wire-to-wire in Monday’s $11,500 Preferred-2 for pacers. The gelding held on to win by three-quarters of a length over Colonial Baron in a time of 1:55.4. U Know Ugot It grabbed the show dough. Doug McNair, who had fours on the program, navigated the Baker trainee, who is now a seven-time winner in 2009.
The $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred-2 was a walk in the park for Break The News, who went coast-to-coast for driver Doug McNair and trainer Carl Jamieson. Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, the three-year-old daughter of Western Ideal threw down panels of :28.4, :59.1 and 1:28.4 before scooting home in 29 seconds to post the two-length score over St Lads Hailaroo in a time of 1:57.4. Third prize went to Just Her Way.
Jamieson shares ownership on the career winner of $316,169 with partners Tom Kyron, Arthur Slack and George Harrison. She went 2-for-14 in her rookie season, and Monday’s score was her first tally of the season in 12 attempts.
