Jacob Cutting Gets His First Win
Son of local trainer Darryl Cutting, Jacob Cutting collected his first driving victory when steering Cajun Beat to a 1:55.4 victory on Saturday, Aug. 17 at The Track On 2.
Away third to a :28.2 opening quarter, Cutting sat patiently with Cajun Beat while Sheldonthepsychic and Kelly Hoerdt set the pace. Still sitting off the speed past a :56.4 half, Cajun Beat stuck inside as Westridge Warrior ventured first over with Marvtherat on cover, locking Cutting at the cones towards three-quarters in 1:26.4. The pair found their way out of the box through the stretch and ripped to a two-and-a-quarter length victory over Marvtherat. Westridge Warrior settled for third.
As part of driver’s tradition, Cutting was hit with a wave of water to celebrate his first victory. Perennial leading-Alberta driver Brandon Campbell as well as Track On 2 starter Bob Smith dowsed the young driver as he exited the winner’s circle.
Cutting had driven 27 starts prior to visiting the winner’s circle for the first time. He came close to victory in the first race on the card, steering his trainee and race-favourite Archaic to a second-place finish, two lengths behind wire-to-wire winner Chase N The Divas.
