Trotters To Tussle In Earl Rowe
The 2019 edition of the Earl Rowe Memorial Trot is set for this Sunday (August 18) at Georgian Downs as the Barrie area oval hosts a special Family Day program.
Nine trotters have dropped in the box for the $75,000 Earl Rowe Memorial, with 2018 O'Brien Award winner Run Director tabbed as 9-5 morning line choice. The four-year-old son of Kadabra - Keep The Spirit has won two of his last three starts and is coming off a third place finish in the Crawford Farm Trot last Sunday at Tioga Downs.
Trained by Ben Baillargeon for Tom & Elizabeth Rankin, Run Director boasts four wins in eight starts this season. Regular driver Sylvain Filion is listed on Run Director, who has drawn post six in the Earl Rowe, slated as the tenth race on the card.
To the inside of Run Director is 5-2 second choice Dancer Hall, who has two wins in his last four starts since returning from a layoff. Those two races he didn't win, however, were in fact won by rival Run Director.
James MacDonald will drive 2018 O'Brien Award finalist Dancer Hall (Deweycheatumnhowe - Daylon Mystique) for trainer Rod Boyd and owner 1187422 Ontario Inc. of Ottawa, Ont.
In addition to the Earl Rowe Trot on Sunday, Georgian Downs will host the Ontario Sires Stakes' glamour boy division. The fourth OSS leg for three-year-old pacing colts & geldings sports a $156,400 purse. Divisional leader Century Farroh (PP5, Sylvain Filion, 5-2) will once again look to best topple his provincial counterparts, including 2019 Meadowlands Pace champ Best In Show (PP3, Bob McClure, 7-5) and Bronx Seelster (PP8, Jody Jamieson, 6-1) who fell a neck short of Century Farroh in the most recent OSS Gold leg on August 2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Family Day card at Georgian will feature $1 hot dogs & pop and activities for the kids including a bounce castle, inflatable maze, Connect 4 basketball and more. First post time for the Sunday card is 6:00 p.m.
