Tobins Terror Takes Leamington Record

A pocket ride and swift early pace poised Tobins Terror to deliver as the favourite in a $5,400 conditioned pace on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Leamington Raceway. But the 8-5 choice dashed clear to a 1:56.4 victory—a track-record performance.

Njs Trick Pistol pushed for the front while driver Tyler Borth positioned Tobins Terror second heading to a :27.4 opening quarter. The pacesetter maintained his speed towards a :56.2 half and decelerated towards three-quarters, timed in 1:27. Borth pulled Tobins Terror rounding the final turn and edged to the front through the stretch, cruising to a length-and-three-quarter victory over Njs Trick Pistol while Leafs And Wings circled past tiring horses to finish third five lengths back.

Besting the previous record for aged pacing mares of 1:57.1 set by Lady With A Weapon, Tobins Terror won her first race of the season and her 11th from 44 overall, earning $80,866. Gordon McDonnell conditions and co-owns the four-year-old Stonebridge Terror mare with Desmond Robinet and Michael Cecile. She paid $5.50 to win.
