Makes Me Stupid Duels, Prevails
After pulling pocket at the half and enduring an extended duel, Makes Me Stupid ($5.60) wore down Southwest Bliss and parried a late charge from Modern Best to take Wednesday's (Aug. 7) $1,050 featured pace at Inverness Raceway.
Rodney Gillis protected the pocket with the eight-year-old Art Official gelding, drafting behind Southwest Bliss (Alex MacQuarrie) through a :29.4 quarter before angling out to engage the pacesetter through middle fractions of :59.2 and 1:29.3. Makes Me Stupid worked to put away Southwest Bliss on the final turn, but faced a late threat from Modern Best (Redmond Doucet) upon cornering for home. Makes Me Stupid prevailed by a length in 1:59.2, notching the 29th win of his career. Modern Best rallied into second, while Doubleshotascotch (Ryan Campbell) stayed on for third.
