Birds I View Vicious In Lady Crocus

Trevor Williams trainee Birds I View protected pylon position and kicked clear from her competition to take the $12,800 Lady Crocus Pace at Killarney on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The sophomore daughter of Armbro Baylor faced little pressure through opening splits of :29.1 and 1:01.1. She widened to a three-length lead over pocket-sitter C R Delight passing three-quarters in 1:31.4 as the latter continued to chase a then seven-length deficit spinning into the stretch. Birds I View coasted to the finish to win by five lengths in 2:03.2 over Nellies Onthemoney, who broke stride at the quarter, ranged wide from the back to overtake tiring horses for second. Sprinttothefinish also passed tiring horses for third.

Owned by Michael and Trevor Williams, Birds I View won her third race from four starts this season and her fourth from 10 overall, earning $13,663. Blake Piwniuk sat in the bike.

Sin Machqueen capped the card in the co-featured $2,700 Open Pace, going wire to wire in 2:00. The eight-year-old Mach Three gelding led through fractions of :29.1, 1:00.2 and 1:29.4 while enduring mid-race pressure from Prairie Mystic until the final turn. Sin Machqueen edged to a three-length lead nearing the finish while pursued by Outlaw Kismet kicking off cover for second and Prairie Mystic fading to third.

Owned by Aaron Mason, Darin Bouchard, trainer Sherri Mason and driver Darryl Mason, Sin Machqueen won his fourth race from 23 starts and his 18th from 101 overall, earning $70,934.

Trainer Donald Howlett swept the top two spots in the $2,200 Preferred 2 Pace with pocket-sitter Noisy Nora pouncing on her pacesetting stablemate to win by a nose. Tracking fractions of :30.1, 1:02.4 and 1:33, Noisy Nora found room as first-over challenger Simply Awesome retreated through the stretch. Tahuya Rico led for most of the way until Noisy Nora nipped him at the finish in 2:04.

Winning her third race from 17 starts this season and her 10th from 55 overall, Noisy Nora has earned $66,819. Michel Rey drove the winner for owners Wanda Howlett, Ralph Morrow and Dwayne Taylor.

Follow Your Nose opened the nine-race make-up card with a track-record performance in an $1,850 maiden event. Trainer-driver Jacques Lambert, who co-owns the two-year-old Toucam Sam filly with Julie Lambert, sat the pocket through a :31.2 first quarter and 1:04.1 half. Lambert then angled Follow Your Nose from the pocket, took control past three-quarters in 1:34.2 and sprinted to a 2:03.4 victory by six lengths.
