Slick Tony Slides To Philly Victory
After a facile 1:49.3 win last week, George Leager's Slick Tony ($2.80) converted again at odds-on when he took the featured $18,000 top-level conditioned pace on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 4) at Harrah's Philadelphia.
George Napolitano Jr. again drove the four-year-old No Spin Zone stallion, setting him in motion from fourth in pursuit of pacesetter Decoy on approach to a :55.2 half. Slick Tony made steady ground up the far side, forcing a :27.2 third split before seizing command midway on the far turn.
After putting away Decoy with three-sixteenths to go, Slick Tony edged away to evade a three-wide rally from Ballerat Boomerang by one-and-three-quarter lengths in 1:51. Billy Badger N closed from astern to finish third.
Leager also trains Slick Tony, who recorded the 26th win of his career.
The 20-cent Jackpot Hi-5 carryover continues to build, as multiple players selected the 2-1-7-3-9 combination in the afternoon's fifth race for a $131.40 dividend. The carryover for Wednesday's (Aug. 7) fifth race now stands at $68,438.97, and is payable in the event of one unique winning ticket.
Post time for Wednesday's 14-race card is 12:25 p.m. EDT.
