Gagnon Sweeps Rideau Features
Guy Gagnon was the star of the show in the nation's capital on Sunday night (July 28), capturing both $8,600 Not Listed Preferred features at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
The leading driver at Rideau this season, Gagnon partnered up with Sam Sergi trainee Revenue Agent ($6.30) for a 1:56.2 score in the featured trot before driving his own trainee Chaleurs Ad ($6.90) to a 1:52.1 score in the week's top pacing event.
In the trot, Revenue Agent drafted in third behind early splits of :27.2 and :57.2 set by 2-1 favourite Pasadena Star (Stephane Pouliot) before commencing his first-over attack up the backstretch. After pressing a :28.2 third split, Revenue Agent wore down Pasadena Star on the far turn and, after putting away that rival, kept the second-over LMC Mass Gem (Jacques Beeaudoin) 1-1/2 lengths at bay for his seventh win this year and the 36th of his career. Neon Lights (Jonathan Lachance) rode third-over cover into third, missing the runner-up spot by a scant neck.
Sam Sergi shares ownership of the 11-year-old Revenue S gelding with Michael Sergi.
The pacing event saw Gagnon and Chaleurs Ad vacate the pocket to take charge from Stonebridge Beach (Pouliot) with a circuit to go, and travel uncontested from there through middle fractions of :55.4 and 1:23.1 before holding his pocket rival 1-1/4 lengths in arrears to score in 1:52.1. Musselsfrmbrussels (Stephane Brosseau)rallied belatedly for third, another 2-1/4 lengths behind.
Ecuries Maguire Inc. owns Chaleurs Ad. The seven-year-old gelding by Riggins is a five-time winner this season and a 34-time winner over his career.
