Rebellious, Merton In Tioga Spotlight
Mike Merton capped a five-win afternoon on Sunday (July 28) at Tioga Downs with a score in the $11,000 featured pace with Rebellious ($5.30).
Rebellious went straight to the lead through a :26.1 first quarter and then yielded to Americanprimetime (Wally Hennessey), who took over past the stands for the first time and controlled the pace through the half in :53.3 and three-quarters in 1:21.3. Rebellious angled out just before the three-quarters and flew by the pacesetter for a 1:49 win, a new lifetime mark. Americanprimetime held on for second over Motown N (Jeffrey Long).
Rebellious, a five-year-old Mach Three gelding, earned his seventh win this season for the partnership of Joel Warner and trainer Mike Deters.
Merton got his other driving wins with Melanies Fran ($4.60), Mr Big Bucks ($2.90), Itsnoproblemman ($15.80) and The Spy ($6.10).
Prairie Fortune ($2.50) gave Deters a sweep of the Sunday features, destroying the field in the $11,000 featured trot with Jim Meittinis in the bike.
Dragin The Wagon (Aaron Byron) took the lead just before a :26.4 first quarter, and he controlled a :56.2 half before Prairie Fortune took over with three-eighths to go. The seven-year-old Arapa Victory gelding breezed down the stretch to defeat Jack Rules (Andy Santeramo) and Campbellini (Corey Braden) by 10-1/2 lengths in 1:52.3.
Prairie Fortune notched his seventh win this season and the 54th of his career for Deters, who shares ownership with Laurie Poulin.
Live racing returns to Tioga Downs on Friday (Aug. 2), with a nine-race card starting at 6:15 p.m.
