Dresden Honours Core, Must Be Matt
The founder of B Cor Stables was honoured at Dresden Raceway on Sunday (July 28) for his contributions to harness racing, both at Dresden Raceway and industry-wide.
Bill Core, who passed away earlier this year at age 95, started the legendary stable that saw 131 ‘B Cor’ horses registered from 1977 until 2012. They earned millions of dollars in purse earnings and won hundreds of races in Ontario, the United States and Sweden.
Core’s granddaughter and great granddaughters were in attendance. Seven-year-old Angus Hall gelding Stonebridge Score won the Bill Core Memorial Trot for owner Bill Borth and driver/trainer Tyler Borth in 2:00.3.
Grits N Gravy was the winner of the Must Be Matt Pace for driver Marc St. Louis in 1:59.4. The eight-year-old Daylon Frontier gelding is owned and trained by William Hamm while Jordan Hamm is a partner.
Must Be Matt was honoured for his career accomplishments of 42 wins and over $477,000 in the bank for owners Joe and Bev Santarossra of Maidstone.
St. Louis recorded five wins during the Sunday card. He has now recorded 22 wins at Dresden this year and sits just three victories behind dash leader Tyler Borth (25).
Sunday’s handle at Dresden Raceway was $26,730.
