Timestorm Breaks Northfield Record
Northfield Park hosted the Summit County Fair Stakes on Friday (July 26). Ohio-bred youngsters competed throughout the evening, but freshman trotter Timestorm stole the show.
In the evening’s 15th race, a two-year-old colt and gelding trot for a purse of $6,900, Timestorm fired off the gate and went straight to the lead. Driver John Moody sat chilly in the bike for both laps, as the team never experienced an anxious moment throughout the mile.
Timestorm was charted as a length in front at the opening quarter of :28.3. The lead expanded to 10 lengths by the :57.2 half-mile clocking. Timestorm maintained his 10-length lead through the 1:26.4 three-quarters time. He opened up by three more lengths in the final quarter, winning by 13 over Klubot (Marty Wollam) in 1:56.4.
The previous 1:57 record was set by freshman gelding trotter Rose Run Spanky and Josh Sutton in 2016.
Timestorm remains undefeated through six career starts for owner Ted Boschma of South Lyon, Michigan and trainer Kent Hess. The victory increased his earnings to $27,167.
Timestorm was the race favourite and returned $4.60 to win.
Earlier in the card Steve "You're Never Too" Oldford went wire-to-wire with Airzoom Lindy to capture a $5,000 CKG Billings Trot in 1:58.
The winner, a former road horse who didn't begin racing until he was five years old, is owned by Oldford Racing and trained by Jessica Roegner. He paid $3.60 to win.
