Silent Rescue Strong At Century
Following a pillar-to-post win last week, Silent Rescue ($5.10) worked to repel a stern Real Buzz for a 1:56.1 score in Wednesday's (July 24) featured optional claiming pace at Century Downs.
David Kelly used the pole to his advantage with the 11-year-old Rescue Me gelding, as the pair quickly seated Freedoms Rescue (Keith Clark) in the pocket through a :27.4 first quarter before rating a :56.4 half.
With three-eighths to go, the first-over Real Buzz (Brandon Campbell) duelled to a narrow lead, but Silent Rescue stood his ground after being forced to play catch-up past three-quarters in 1:24.4. Real Buzz was never able to clear, and Silent Rescue reclaimed the lead above the eighth pole while fully extended. He drew off in the final sixteenth to post a 1:56.1 win, while Real Buzz and Veneno (Jamie Gray) reported home second and third respectively.
Kelly, who also trains 26-time winner Silent Rescue, shares ownership with John Bertsch and Randy Smith.
