Six Straight For Boadicea
The winning streak is officially six-in-a-row and counting for Boadicea, who overcome a bumpy start to win a $20,000 event for three-year-old filly pacers Friday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The daughter of Big Jim-Rose Seelster put in a couple of steps just as the gate sped away, and as a result she was forced to settle into an early five hole while Beautyonthebeach marched to the front. She put up the opening quarter in :26.4 before being confronted by Boadicea in the backstretch.
Jonathan Drury hustled Boadicea up on the rim on the way to the half, and she took command right at the mid-way point in :54.4. She went on to post the three-quarter clocking of 1:21.2 before using a :27.3 to seal the deal by 3-3/4 lengths over Lovely Donna in 1:49. Sunny Dee rounded out the top three finishers in the speedy affair.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, the Bill Budd trainee improved her overall record to nine wins from 12 starts with the win. The career winner of $150,733 is a homebred owned by Charlie and Gordon Lawrence of Blenheim, Ont.
