Lady Crocus Set For Sunday

A field of eight pacing fillies will head postward on Sunday (July 14) at the Holland Fair hoping to prevail in the 2019 Lady Crocus Stakes.

The stakes event is co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the Manitoba Standardbred Sires & Breeders Association, and features a purse of $12,880.

Favoured Birds I View (PP1, Blake Piwniuk, 2-1) is one of just three fillies in the field with a victory in 2019. The daughter of Armbro Baylor - Red Bird Of Buxton made a successful sophomore debut last Sunday (July 7), sprinting away to a two-length win in 2:06.1 for driver Don Howlett and trainer Trevor Williams, who co-owns with Michael Williams of Winnipeg, Man.

Sprinttothefinish (PP8, Don Howlett, 8-1) concluded her career debut in the winner's circle after a gate-to-wire 2:05.1 score on July 7. Another daughter of Armbro Baylor, from the Sir Luck mare Casimir Hotpants, Sprinttothefinish is owned by Wanda Howlett of Winnipeg and Dwayne Taylor of Minto, Man.

The fastest filly in the field also has a tough post to overcome. Nelliesonthemoney (PP7, Clayton raybrook, 7-1) finished with broken equipment in her provincial sophomore debut on July 7 for owner-breeder David Mooney of Wawanesa, Man., but the daughter of Riverboat King - Deziree Belle picked up her mark of 1:58.4 last month at Century Downs.

Sunday's card of harness racing at Holland also features a $2,200 Fillies & Mares Open Pace and a $2,700 Open Pace. First post is slated for 1:30 p.m.
