Speed Holds In Rideau Features
The $8,100 Preferred events on Sunday, July 7 at Rideau Carleton Raceway went to horses hitting the engine and motoring around the oval.
Lmc Mass Gem went wire to wire in the Preferred Trot with a 1:56 mile. The five-year-old Muscle Mass gelding set a clip of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.1 on the lead while Pasadena Star applied first-over pressure at the half. Lmc Mass Gem turned into the stretch and strolled to a two-and-a-quarter length victory over pocket-sitter Talbotcreek Suzie while Pasadena Star settled for third.
Owned by driver Jacques Beaudoin along with Maurice Houle, Ronald Charette, Andre Beaudoin, Lmc Mass Gem won his second race from 20 starts this season and his 16th from 81 overall, earning $325,057. Johanne Begin drove the $5.20 winner.
Chaleurs Ad later wired the Preferred Pace field with a 1:52.3 mile over odds-on favourite National Debt. Driver Richard Simard sent the seven-year-old Riggins gelding to the top before a :26.4 opening quarter and continued to lead through a :56 half and three-quarters in 1:24.1. National Debut advanced uncovered moving into the stretch and came three-quarter lengths away from victory. Prince Giovanni rallied from third over for show.
Owned by Ecuires Maguire Inc., Chaleurs Ad won his fourth race from 10 starts this season and his 33rd from 88 overall, earning $72,970. Guy Gagnon conditions the $9.00 winner.
