Surreal Feeling Upsets Saratoga Open
Dismissed at odds of 8-1, Surreal Feeling toppled her competition from the pylon draw to win the $15,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Sunday, July 7.
Driver Frank Coppola Jr. sent the four-year-old So Surreal mare to the point and clicked middle fractions of :56.1 and 1:23.4. Race-favourite Oceania narrowed on the leader moving for the stretch but Surreal Feeling revved away from the field to pace a 1:53.1 mile over longshot Western Stepp closing for second. Oceania settled for third.
Surreal Feeling paid $19.40 to win. The exacta paid $110.50 and the triple came back $329.00 in the six-horse Open. The victory by Surreal Feeling gave Coppola four winners on the card.
Live racing resumes on Wednesday afternoon, July 10 at Saratoga with the final matinee card until September. There is a Pick-5 carryover of $1,378 on Wednesday with first post time set for 12:00 p.m.
