Got Power Strong On Debut
Overcoming a break when leading around the first turn, Got Power kept course and strolled to a 1:57.4 victory as the odds-on favourite in a $15,000 Two-Year-Old Filly Pace on Tuesday, July 2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver Chris Christoforou floated the daughter of Royal Mattjesty to the top and led by two lengths moving past a :29.3 opening quarter. Christoforou showed the Tony O’Sullivan trainee the whip moving to the backside and then lost stride before quickly recovering approaching three-eighths. Got Power continued to lead through a 1:00.1 half and past three-quarters in 1:30 before fronting the sprint to the finish. Rose Run Victory swept from second over and second to last to take second, one-and-a-quarter lengths behinds, while Southwind Myrtle gave chase in third.
Owned by O’Sullivan Racing Inc. Gary Volpe and William Hill, Got Power earned $7,500 with the victory. The $15,000 London Selected Sale purchase returned $2.70 to win.
Trainer Nick Gallucci collected three wins on the card. He won the first race—a $10,000 claiming handicap—with Vero Amore Bi ($5.90), the last race—an $11,000 conditioned trot—with Alpha Seelster ($9.70) and Scouts Report ($7.60) sandwiched between the two with a win in an $11,000 conditioned pace.
