Regular calendar contributor, Frances (Frankie) Lund of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is the photographer behind the July shot for Standardbred Canada’s Heart of Harness Racing Calendar.

Lund captured this image at the Matinee track in Kensington, PE., the day after last year’s Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer.

“The track is a lot of fun and as you can see pretty relaxed. The matinee program has provided us with a lot of our top drivers and rising stars, and I am always glad to make it to the races to support them with a few photos,” she explained.

Frances (Frankie) Lund may be a name that you recognize, not only because of the top honours she has gained in the industry for the stunning photos that she has taken throughout the maritime island, but also for her famous Gold Cup and Saucer photos.

From calendar features, to award winning photos, it’s evident that the Island is considered her playground for photography.

“I think most people know my name from past calendar stories, and I am thrilled to say this is the fifth time one of my photos has been featured in the calendar and I still get excited each time I get the news that I made it again.”

2015 was a big year for Lund, as she travelled to Ontario to accept her 2015 Media Excellence Award for Outstanding Photography at the O’Brien Awards, and then made her way to the sunny south to receive the George Smallsreed Award for Feature Photography at the Dan Patch Awards.

Frances’ award-winning photo captured one of the most famous moments in Canadian harness racing from the 2015 season, when torrential rains forced officials at Red Shores to postpone the traditional 12:00 a.m. post for the Gold Cup & Saucer and conduct the race the following day.

Along with aforementioned accolades, Lund has had her photo featured in the 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and now the 2019 Heart of Harness Racing Calendar.
