Fun For Young (And Old) At Kawartha
The Saturday night (June 29) card at Kawartha Downs was focused on entertainment for the kids, but that didn't stop a veteran from having some fun of his own.
Off the track, a bouncy castle, petting zoo and Razberry the Clown highlighted the night, "with every child going home with a smile on their face," according to Kawartha's Jim Huck. Two lucky kids went home as the winners of a huge stuffed animal each in the kids' draw.
The capacity crowd was also treated to some exciting races on the track. Kawartha's leading driver, young gun Nick Boyd, picked up three wins on the 10-race card, winning with Austin Hall ($5.50, 1:59), Shes A Pretty Girl ($4.70, 1:58.1) and Crocadile Canyon ($11.80, 1:56). On the flip side, popular longtime horseman Carman Hie made a rare driving appearance and the 75-year-old notched his first win in five years aboard Iamsam Samiam ($6.80, 1:58.1) for owner-trainer Doug Hie.

Congratulations to Carman on your winning drive and to brother Doug for knowing a winning driver when he sees one. Thanks to you both for reading the old Rewind stories and for being such a major part of not only our sport's past but its present and future. Belated birthday wishes on your June 2nd birthday!
