Born A Dragon Upsets At Century Downs
All eyes were on Cusdmagicdragon in Saturday afternoon’s $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Century Downs, but it was Born A Dragon using last second heroics to pull off the 6-1 upset in the featured tilt.
Born A Dragon got away fourth for driver/trainer Keith Clark, and that left the early lead to Cusdmagicdragon. The favourite carved out panels of :28, :56.3 and 1:25.1 before her wheels started to wobble, and that left the door wide-open for the backfield.
Born A Dragon tracked cover behind the first-over Scardy Cat, and when Clark flipped the switch in deep stretch Born A Dragon kicked home in :29.2 to win by three-quarters of a length over Scardy Cat in 1:55.1. Lydi Lula Belle was third.
Clark and John Fowlis share ownership on the four-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon-Barossa. The 13-time winner has manufactured a 5-5-1 record from 13 assignments this season, and she’s banked in excess of $80,000 to date.
