Dresden Weekend Of Streaks And Stakes
Two days of racing at Dresden Raceway this holiday weekend will see horses trying to keep some streaks alive on Sunday while Monday will feature four divisions of Ontario Sire Stakes three-year-old trotting fillies and two hotly contested divisions of the Mark Austin Pacing Series.
On Sunday, Squirt and Just Like Buttah will try to keep their streaks alive at the local oval.
Nick Steward is at the controls for Squirt as the eight-year-old Mister Big mare looks to make it four wins in a row for owner Barb Dinning and trainer Howard Dinning.
Just Like Buttah is the favourite in the seventh race for owner Doug Good and trainer Gord McDonnell. The six-year-old Allamerican Native mare has easily won two in a row for driver Tyler Borth.
Canada Day Monday racing will feature four divisions of Ontario Sires Stakes three-year-old fillies including Splurge On Me in the first division. The Kadabra filly is owned by trainer Bob McIntosh and CSX Stables and will have the driving services of Trevor Henry.
The second division shows Justice Society as the morning line favourite. The Justice Hall filly is owned by Ecurie Gaetan Bono Inc. and Vincenzio Cammisano. Dany Fontaine trains and Sylvain Filion will drive.
Class Angel and driver James MacDonald are favoured in the third division of sophomore fillies. The Archangel offspring is owned by 1187422 Ontario Ltd and trained by Shawn Steacy.
The final division of OSS trotters shows Archangel filly Witches N Angels as the favourite for driver Filion. Witches N Angels is owned by Andy Steward, Lennan Macisaac and Carolyn Williston with Joe Macisaac as the conditioner.
The second leg of the Mark Austin Pacing Series will feature some great races with several evenly-matched pacers in both legs.
Toxic Hanover has the morning line nod from oddsmakers after drawing the rail for a second time and coming off a convincing eight-and-a-half length win in the series opener. The Jack Darling-owned and trained three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere colt will have the driving services of Dresden’s top reinsman, Tyler Borth, but will be facing some tough competition in Premier Rockstar. Premier Rockstar will score from post six and is fresh off a win in the Sharpes Series final at Hanover Raceway. The three-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding is owned by Premier and Associates, trained by Bob Young and will be driven by Ryan Holliday.
Donnie Rankin Jr. is owner, trainer and driver of Racebytheseaside. The three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere colt will score from post two after winning his opening division heat.
Three-year-old Dali gelding Nagle is the favourite in the second leg for driver/trainer Keith Jones and owner Jody Simmons. Nagle is coming off a second place finish in the Sharpes Series at Hanover Raceway and drew the rail in the second heat.
Township Willy will be the top contender in the second leg from post two for driver Tyler Borth. The three-year-old Sportswriter colt is owned by Morris and Stanley Zipkin.
First post time for both Sunday and Monday cards of racing is 1:30 p.m.
