An extended first-over grind wasn't too much for Jims Great ($3.40), who came up with all the answers to capture his fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday night (June 26) at Grand River Raceway.

After leaving for position from post 5 in the $8,800 top-level conditioned pace, the four-year-old Big Jim entire was forced to settle into midfield as Casimir Rumrunner (Paul MacKenzie) sprinted to a :27.3 first quarter over fast going. Shortly thereafter, Scott Young angled Jims Great first-over, and the pair rushed alongside Casimir Rumrunner to press the pace after a :58.1 half.

Jims Great forced a :28.3 third sectional before grinding down Casimir Rumrunner on the far turn, edging away nearing the eighth pole while the second-over Delorean Seelster (Ryan Holliday) took aim. Fully extended through the final furlong, Jims Great prevailed in 1:56.2 by 1-3/4 lengths, while Casimir Rumrunner dug back in to protect second from the chasing Delorean Seelster.
