Tessier Takes Rideau Preferreds
Trainer Yves Tessier won both $8,100 Preferred events on the Rideau Carleton Raceway card Sunday, June 23, sending favourites Flying Isa N and National Debt to victories in the Preferred Trot and Preferred Pace respectively.
Pasadena Star took control from Lmc Mass Gem passing a :27.3 quarter. Driver Stephane Brosseau sat fourth with the 11-year-old Pegasus Spur gelding and, by a :56.4 half, moved Flying Isa N off the pegs to catch Neon Lights cover approaching three-quarters in 1:25.3. Neon Lights gained control turning into the stretch but got outkicked by Flying Isa N, settling for second by a half length in the 1:55 mile. Lmc Mass Gem took third since Pasadena Star lost stride turning for the finish.
Owned by Francois Morin, Flying Isa N won his third-consecutive Preferred when collecting his 45th win in 160 starts, earning $586,704. He paid $3.40 to win.
National Debt brushed to the front past a :27 first quarter in the Preferred Pace and raced unchallenged towards a :55.3 half. Musselsfrmbrussels attempted to apply pressure from first over moving past htree-quarters in 1:24.4 but quickly stalled turning into the stretch. Prince Giovanni revved from off cover to take second while pocket-sitter Stonebridge Beach held third.
An eight-year-old son of Allamerican Native, National Debt won his seventh race from 13 starts and his 46th from 148 overall, earning $492,594. Pascal Berube drove the $2.90 winner for owner Francois Morin.
