'Windmere' Repeats At Inverness
For the second straight week, Windmeredontmatter ($5.00) notched a pillar-to-post win in the featured pace at Inverness Raceway, winning Sunday's (June 23) $1,150 winners-over event in 2:00.2.
Lewis MacDonell used pole position to his advantage, gunning the four-year-old Articulator gelding to a four-length lead through a :29.4 first quarter before pulling the pace back through middle splits of 1:00.2 and 1:30.2. Turning for home, Dreamfair Van Dam (Gerard Kennedy) started to uncork a rally from the back of the seven-horse field, but Windmeredontmatter dug in to prevail by three-quarters of a length. Dreamfair Van Dam circled into second, passing the three-wide Dream On Dream On (Ryan Campbell) in the final strides for the runner-up spot.
Windmeredontmatter captured his fourth seasonal win for co-owners Alex Sutherland Jr. and Malcolm MacEachen. It was the ninth of his career.
