Wildcat Jet Best At Northside
It's only fitting that the wild-est horse in the Saturday (June 22) feature at Northside Downs would emerge victorious from a race with a wild finish.
As expected, Brother John (Randy Getto) fronted the field of six early and controlled the tempo with favoured Wildcat Jet (Mark Pezzarello) enjoying a pocket ride through fractions of :28.3, :59.3 and 1:30.3. Here's where things got interesting.
Sly Baran (Greg Bailey) started to falter from a second-over tow, allowing last-at-the-half Elm Grove Ladyluck (Ryan Campbell) to slingshot from fifth and racing along the pylons to a three-wide attack to clear first-over Burn Em Up Burr (Gerard Kennedy). Elm Grove Ladyluck was second turning for home, with Wildcat Jet getting room from the pocket after Burn Em Up Burr started to fade and tipped three-wide around Elm Grove Ladyluck. A fresh Accelerator (Greg Sparling) was able to advance once Wildcat Jet tipped wide and set the stage for a four-across finish.
Brother John fought valiently but Wildcat Jet's :31.3 final quarter was enough to get up in time by a neck in 2:02.2, with Elm Grove Ladyluck a half-length back to complete the triactor.
Owned by trainer Brian O'Donnell, Wildcat Jet (Jeremes Jet - Art Expo) hasn't missed the top two in seven seasonal starts with a solid 2-5-0 summary. The win puts his seasonal bankroll at $2,288 and pushes his lifetime tally to $18,004.
