Windmeredontmatter Seizes The Moment
The Sunday (June 16) program of live racing at Inverness Raceway featured the $1,150 Winners-Over Pace, and with Intended Royalty not in attendance, punters were forced to switch their focus to another performer.
Although he ultimately wasn’t sent postward as the public’s first choice, four-year-old Articulator gelding Windmeredontmatter sure raced like was.
Windmeredontmatter fired out from Post 1 in the afternoon’s featured contest, which had been carded as Race 6. Although he was the public’s slight second choice in the wagering, Windmeredontmatter raced large on the engine.
Driver Lewis MacDonell guided the Alex Sutherland trainee, and the pair carved the speed in :28.4, :58.3 and 1:28.4. They came home with a 30-second final panel and posted a quarter-length victory in 1:58.4.
Kwicky Kwanzaa, who had Joseph Poirier at the helm, raced second through the mile and finished second. Buttons, who hosted Andrew MacLean in the bike, finished third after having raced second-over late.
Windmeredontmatter is owned by Alex Sutherland Jr. and Malcolm Maceachen of Port Hood, NS
