Top Talent On Hand In Charlottetown
A top-notch field of pacers will take to the track in the featured pace on a stakes-laden card Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval will hold a 12-dash presentation on Saturday starting off at 6:00 p.m. Rose Run Quest will look to continue his dominance in the top class event in Race 11, carrying a $2,900 purse. The Marc Campbell trainee has been assigned post eight after winning this class his last two starts including a 1:54.4 gate-to-wire scorcher in his latest. That post disadvantage is enough for race analyst Les MacIsaac to look another way and peg Euchred as the one who will acquire the front end.
“Euchred was not able to exploit that great gate speed last week but it's a different story tonight as the one that set the pace in the latest is stuck out on the fence,” MacIsaac said. “If this guy can secure an uncontested lead there could be nothing but open road ahead.”
David Dowling trains and drives Euchred, who will leave from post five on Saturday. He's finished no worse than third in all four of his seasonal outings.
Completing the field: Burn Out Hanover (Kenny Arsenault), Revenant (Adam Merner), IC True Grit (Mike McGuigan), Mick Dundee (Don MacNeill), Adkins Hanover (Ambyr Campbell) and Doctor Royal (Gilles Barrieau).
The Maritime Breeders Eliminations for three-year-olds will go to the gate in four races on the Saturday program. The second and sixth race will feature the eliminations for the three-year-old pacing fillies as the top four from each class advance to next week’s final. After pacing razor-sharp miles in the Atlantic Sires Stakes last week in Truro, Marc Campbell’s two fillies are being treated as the ones to beat in both eliminations. Arc Light is the morning line choice in Race 2 leaving from post four in the field of five entrants. Ma Rebelle holds the distinction of the fastest sophomore lass on the Eastern Seaboard and has post two on the gate in her Race 6 elimination with Campbell aboard.
The three-year-old pacing colt eliminations hit the track in fourth and eighth races on the card. The first colt elimination has Saulsbrook Lassie pegged for top spot fresh off his 1:58.1 win in the Bob Dewar Stake for driver Adam Merner and trainer Jean Belliveau. Notorious is favoured in the second elim, leaving from post three for trainer-driver Campbell.
Three Truths is the favourite in the seventh race Drive For Home Series Pace presented by Hillside Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac. Arsenault drives the Paul Doyle trainee off the rail in the $2,400 class.
Harness racing owner and business leader Peter Smith will be special guest on Inside Track with host Peter MacPhee. The interview segment airs at 5:35 p.m. on the Red Shores broadcast. For race programs, promotional information and more go to Redshores.ca.
