'Riptide' Upsets Meadows Feature
Dismissed at 22-1, Keystone Riptide wore down a game Touchamatic and snapped that rival’s six-race winning streak when capturing the $20,000 Filly & Mare Open Pace at The Meadows on Tuesday, June 4.
Although Touchamatic parked through a :26.1 opening quarter, she refused to yield to the first-over challenge of Keystone Riptide and Mike Wilder after clearing command. At the wire, though, Keystone Riptide thrusted her nose in front to win in 1:52 with Magic Forces third.
Randy Bendis trains Keystone Riptide, a six-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Keystone Rebecca who now boasts $314,780 in career earnings, and owns with Pollack Racing.
Jim Pantaleano and Wilder each enjoyed a triple on the 13-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday, June 5 when the card features a pair of carryovers: $1,393.04 in the Pick 5, $352.84 in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 1:05 p.m.
