Betterthancheddar ’19 Book Full, Closed
Winbak Farm of Ontario is proud to announce that Betterthancheddar’s 2019 book is now full and closed.
Betterthancheddar, p, 2, Q1:55.3s; 3, 1:49.1s; 1:48f ($1,636,086), was an O’Brien Award Winner for Aged Pacing Horses / Geldings in 2012.
At three, Betterthancheddar won the American-National final, Breeders Crown elimination and final, Cane Pace, Summertime Pacing Series elimination, and Windy City Stakes division. He was second in the Little Brown Jug elimination (third in the final) and Somebeachsomewhere Stakes elimination.
At four, Betterthancheddar won the Ben Franklin Pace elimination and final (won the final in 1:48, a world record for a five-eighths-mile track), Bobby Quillen Memorial (in 1:49.2 and equalled the world record for a half-mile), Canadian Pacing Derby elimination, and Des Smith Classic final. He was second in the Canadian Pacing Derby final and Mohawk Gold Cup.
Betterthancheddar is a son of Harness Racing Hall of Fame inductees Bettors Delight and Lady Ashlee Ann.
Lady Ashlee Ann is also the dam of 2018 Meadowlands Pace and Little Brown Jug winner Courtly Choice, p, 2, 1:53.1h; 3, 1:47.1 -'18 ($1,051,403), Art Rooney final winner, Ashlees Big Guy, p, 2, 1:53; 3, 1:51.2; 1:50.4f ($1,009,523), and Breeders Crown final winner Artists View, p, 2, Q1:55; 3, 1:50.4; 1:49.4 ($795,750).

“Betterthancheddar has a Hall of Fame pedigree and I’m glad that Ontario breeders are taking notice of his early siring success,” said Pat Woods, Winbak Farm’s Ontario manager.
From two crops of racing age, Betterthancheddar is the sire of twelve $100,000 winners in North America. He is also the sire of five with 1:50 or faster marks.
“Betterthancheddar’s offspring have already had stakes-winning success in Canada, United States and in the southern hemisphere,” said Casie Coleman, trainer and co-owner of Betterthancheddar.
From Betterthancheddar’s first crop of 43 New York-eligible foals, he sired 2018 New York Sire Stakes Final winner Wisdom, p, 2, 1:52.4s; 3, 1:49.4s -'18 ($511,205), and 2018 Art Rooney final winner Trump Nation, p, 2, 1:54.4h; 3, 1:51.3h; 1:49.3 -'19 ($322,956).
From Betterthancheddar’s second crop of 85 foals that are now three, he sired Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winners Better Single, p, 2, 1:53.1s -'18 ($239,019), Powerful Chris, p, 2, 1:52.1s -'18 ($142,917), and Cafe Society, p, 2, 1:54.2s -'18 ($84,048).
