WDC Report: Day Six
Canada's Doug McNair and James MacDonald report on their final day of competition in the 2019 World Driving Championship and reflect on their once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
McNair came into the final leg of the tournament in second place but had a number of horses make breaks and slipped to finish fourth overall. Defending World Driving Champion MacDonald had a solid finish to the competition with three top-three finishes on the day (1-1-1) but had too much ground to make up and finished ninth overall.
With 199.5 points, Rick Ebbinge of The Netherlands fronted Yannick Gingras of the U.S. (193.5 points) with Sweden's Ulf Ohlsson (191.5 points) rounding out the top three.
"We're really happy for Rick to be the winner," said MacDonald. "He was an absolute great guy...To see someone like that win, and the first time someone from The Netherlands has been the world champion so congratulations, Rick."
"Congratulations, Rick," echoed McNair. "He's a great guy and his girlfriend was a lot of fun. They're just classy people."
