Sophomore Steps Up At Summerside

Carlisimo cemented his status as the quickest three-year-old pacer on the Eastern Seaboard last week, and now he faces off with the top pacers in the Sunday afternoon feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 10-dash program kicks off at 1:00 p.m., with Carlisimo teaming up with Marc Campbell in the ninth race carrying a $2,700 purse. The Kevin MacLean-trained Carlisimo rides a two-race win streak into the event and draws Post 3 for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The son of Shadow Play captured his Bob Dewar memorial division in 1:56.2 last Sunday with Campbell aboard but now advances to some iron-tough aged company. Free-For-All pacer Adkins Hanover is part of that competition as he will leave from Post 4 with Ambyr Campbell at the helm for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile., Que. With three on-the-board finishes in his last three tries, Adkins Hanover shows the quickest time on his program with a 1:55.3 mile in his latest.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac will give the nod to Carlisimo to knock off his older rivals.

“Carlisimo has won three of four since the change of address and has already faced aged horses so exiting the stakes scene shouldn't pose a problem,” MacIsaac said. “Looks like the road to the winner's circle goes through him.”

Also in the compact field of five is Heza Workof Art (Driven by Mike McGuigan), Mando Fun (Dale Spence) and Soccer Hanover (Corey MacPherson).

The back-up class goes to the gate in the tenth race finale, with eight entrants vying for a $2,200 purse. Veteran pacer Eagle Jolt will have to overcome Post 8 to find the winner’s circle for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Wilbur and Marie MacDonald of Stratford. Twice As Bright has been undefeated so far this season with three straight wins and gets a better spot in Post 3 with David Dowling aboard for trainer Elton Millar.
