'Quatrain' Sets Sights On Stakes
With a little more than a week to go for this year’s Somebeachsomewhere Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Quatrain Blue Chip turned up for a possible date with that dance by scoring a 1:52.3 victory Thursday evening at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
Quatrain Blue Chip got away third for driver Louis Philippe Roy, but the pair was on the move as soon as the field entered the backstretch. Quatrain Blue Chip rushed to the lead and proceeded to carve out middle panels of :56.3 and 1:24.2. He dug in late and kicked home in :28.1 to fend off a late-rushing Stonebridge Surf in 1:52.3. Size Me Up was third.
Listed at 65-1 in TROT Magazine’s 2019 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, Quatrain Blue Chip nabbed his first win of the season and the fourth of his career for owners Mac Nichol and Gerald Stay. The Casie Coleman trainee has banked more than $33,000 to date.
