Casino Classic Upsets In London Feature
Casino Classic was treated to a perfect, second over trip in Monday’s $11,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and after race favourite The Joy Luck Club got roughed up it left the door wide-open for the Robert Manders trainee to capitalize.
Casino Classic did just that for driver Ryan Holliday, who managed to fend off a late rushing Style Snapshot in the featured tilt for distaffers.
Casino Classic got away fourth while Barockey and The Joy Luck Club battled through fractions of :27.3, :56 and 1:26.1. Both battlers were spent in the late stages of the mile, but Casino Classic had enough to kick off cover and win by a head over Style Snapshot in 1:57.3. Phoos Girl took home the show dough in the six-mare affair.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, the five-year-old daughter of Classic Card Shark-Art Alliance now boasts a 3-1-0 record from six starts this season. The 19-time winner has banked more than $140,000 for owners Richard Manders and Keith Manders.
Blue Moose took command late and drew away to win by three lengths in the $9,400 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers for the tandem of driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Isabelle Darveau.
Grits N Gravy threw down first-half fractions of :28.2 and :58.1 before Shepherd brushed to the lead with Blue Moose. He went on the lead the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4 before scooting home in :30 to win in 1:56.4 over Adore Him and Grits N Gravy.
Shepherd owns the four-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Whig Party, who extended his winning streak to three-in-a-row. The 16-time winner has banked $88,929 to date.
