'Oar' One Of Four For Marino
Trainer Jim Marino collected four victories on the Sunday, April 28 card at Fraser Downs, with one of his wins coming as Boiling Oar wired his competition in the $12,000 Open Pace.
Boiling Oar barreled to a two-length lead moving to the first quarter in :27.1 and slowed the pace slightly while maintaining that margin to a :55.4 half. Odds-on favourite Iwontdothatagain, racing fourth, tipped first over heading to the backstretch and ranged to within a length of control by a 1:23.4 third quarter. Iwontdothatagain dug into the leader through the stretch but finished three-quarter lengths behind in the 1:51.1 mile but seven lengths ahead of Buddys Hope chasing in third.
A four-year-old gelding by Shadow Play, Boiling Oar won his fourth race from 10 starts this season and his 10th from 23 overall, earning $141,049. David Hudon drove the $10.00 for owner J J J Stables.
Marino's grand slam started earlier in the card when Cool Cowboy ($7.60) and Wrangler Cash swept the top two spots in a $9,300 conditioned pace, racing first and second around the track to a 1:52.2 mile. Wadie ($4.60) and Cantbeatacheetah ($5.30) gave Marino the remainder of his wins, with Wadie winning a $7,500 maiden claiming pace in 1:59.3 and Cantbeatacheetah sweeping first over to a 1:56 win in a $3,700 conditioned claiming pace.
