Pouliot Nabs Rideau Preferreds
Trainer-driver Stephane Pouliot took both $8,100 features at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, April 21, winning the Preferred Pace with Stonebridge Beach and the Preferred Trot with Pasadena Star.
Stonebridge Beach sat seventh to a :27 opening quarter set by Cobalt Man clearing Bestofbest Hanover for the lead. Pouliot soon snagged cover as Hp Patriote initiated a two-wide bid into a :56.2 half.
With the pace mild towards a 1:25.2 third quarter, Pouliot tipped Stonebridge Beach three wide and swooped to command approaching the far turn. The six-year-old son of Mach Three opened a two-length lead moving into the stretch and hit the wire three lengths in front of Bestofbest Hanover in 1:54.1. The Roadies, riding the rail, finished third.
Owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. and Germain Brazeau, Stonebridge Beach won his fourth race from 10 starts this season and his 23rd from 109 overall, earning $448,443. He paid $6.80 to win.
Pasadena Star led early and then yielded for a pocket spot before pouncing into the stretch and to a half-length victory over temposetter Slip Into Glide.
Slip Into Glide parked to a :28.2 opening quarter before clearing control through the stretch first time. Uncontested through a :57.3 half and 1:26.4 third quarter, Slip Into Glide maintained a length-and-a-half lead over Slip Into Glide while Lmc Mass Gem gained ground first over but remained three lengths from the lead. Pasadena Star pulled from the rail moving into the stretch and dug into the leader through the lane, slipping to a narrow victory in 1:55.4. Lmc Mass Gem finished four lengths back in third.
An eight-year-old gelding by Kadabra, Pasadena Star, paying $13.10 to win, competes for owner 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. He won his fifth race from 11 starts this season and his 36th from 153 overall, earning $390,661.
