'Luck' Wins Top Class At Mohawk
Just Her Luck was on the receiving end of a rough ride in her April 13 assignment at Woodbine Mohawk Park and as a result she wound up fifth as a beaten favourite, but things worked in her favour in her follow-up try and she redeemed herself to the betting public that sent her off as the even-money choice in the Friday feature.
With Jonathan Drury at the controls, Just Her Luck got away seventh while This Dragon Rocks served up an opening quarter clocked in :28.2. Machnhope, who was parked past the opening panel, muscled her way to the lead and had the field chasing here through middle splits of :58 and 1:28.1 over a rain-soaked track that was listed as ‘Good’.
Just Her Luck moved into the outer flow going to the half, and after sitting seventh at the mid-way point she’d advanced to be fifth on the outside at the three-quarter pole. Machnhope made a break as the field entered the lane, and that left the door wide open for a host of challengers from the backfield. Just Her Luck kicked into gear late and her :27-second closing speed earned her the three-length decision over Kloof Street in 1:55.4. This Dragon Rocks was third in the $26,000 conditioned event for distaffers.
Jeff Boyd trains the four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Just Luck for 1187422 Ontario Inc of Ottawa, Ont. The victory was her fourth of the season from 14 attempts. The nine-time winner surpassed $200,000 in career earnings with the win.
