Tomitta Bayama Upsets In Preferred
Brocks Fortune’s quest for a fourth consecutive score in the top class for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District was denied on Monday evening thanks to a down-the-road triumph by Tomitta Bayama.
In rein to Marc St. Louis, Jr., Tomitta Bayama marched to the top and served up an opening panel clocked in :27.2. He backed things down in the second quarter, however, and that proved to be the difference in the $11,500 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers.
Tomitta Bayama hit the half in :57.2 and then the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4. A :29.3 closing quarter was more than enough for the veteran to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Artistic Pick in 1:55.2. Avalanche Hanover rallied late to finish third. Odds-on favourite Brocks Fortune came first-over before tiring and settling for a fourth-place finish in the six-horse affair.
Sent off at odds of 7-1, the 10-year-old son of Camluck-Korinna Bayama posted his fourth win of the season and the 34rd of his career for trainer Tom Hamm. The career winner in excess of $190,000 is owned by Dave Hudson of Dallas, TX.
Sir Galahad captured the $9,400 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers, covering the extra distance affair in 2:02.3 for driver Scott Coulter and trainer Stephen Halkes.
Wind Blast opened up the mile with a :27.3 first panel, but Coulter had Sir Galahad on the move good and early. The gelding cleared to the top and cut remaining splits of :57.2 and 1:26.3 before stopping the teletimer in 2:02.3. He held on to win by three-quarters of a length over Wind Blast, with Hidden Potential taking home third prize in the mile and one-sixteenth affair.
Sent off as the 5-2 favourite, the seven-year-old son of American Ideal-Cameron D Art nabbed his second win of the season for the partnership of Mike Timpano and Seaspray Stables Ltd. The 13-time winner is closing in on $140,000 in lifetime earnings.
