Da Magician 'Threepeats' At Fraser
Going wire to wire, Da Magician won his third straight in the $12,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Sunday, April 7.
The five-year-old Dragon Again gelding took control from the rail-starting spot while Iwontdothatagain, neighboring him from post two, sat the pocket heading to a :27.2 opening quarter. Da Magician remained unchallenged on the lead through fractions of :56.3 and 1:24.2 and headed the helm in the sprint for home, turning away a pocket-pouncing Iwontdothatagain by three-quarter lengths in 1:52.1. Solongo finished third.
Owned, trained and driven by Serge Masse, Da Magician won his sixth race from nine starts this season and his 33rd from 61 overall, earning $382,889. He paid $3.50 to win.
Trainer Dave Hudon sent three winners on the card. His first win came with odds-on favourite Desireatthebeach ($2.70), going wire to wire in 1:57.2. A race later, he wired the field again as Withyflyingcolours ($6.60) romped by five-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:53.1. Hudon took a field around once more as Glimpseofgoodness ($14.90) wired his competition by a half length in 1:55.1.
