No Whip Chip Whips His Competition
No Whip Chip upset a full field of Open Trotters at Miami Valley on Sunday afternoon, April 7, returning $53.20 for a $2 win bet.
Dan Noble sat in the sulky behind the seven-year-old Victory Sam gelding, who was bred by his late father Sam "Chip" Noble, is owned by his mother Deborah Noble and trained by his sister Meredith Noble. Dan got away fourth in the ten-horse field, opted for a first-up trip on the outside before the half, then cleared to the front before the three-quarters, and sailed home an open lengths winner in 1:54, a lifetime best.
No Whip Chip, who has now won 19 races in 99 career starts, has banked $183,207 for the Noble family. Favored Mugshot Man finished second while Lets Go Bucks grabbed the show laurels. The 3-4 exacta combination returned a healthy $143.20 and a winning 3-4-7 $2 trifecta ticket paid $1,632.
Racing resumes Monday and Tuesday afternoons at Miami Valley at 2:05 p.m. each day. Features include a pair of $15,000 elimination heats of the James K. Hackett Memorial for three-year-old Ohio-sired filly trotters on Monday and another duo of Hackett eliminations for the Ohio-sired trotting colts on Tuesday.
