Lightning Thor Still Undefeated
After starting his career with four consecutive wins at Indiana Downs, Lightning Thor extended the streak to five-in-a-row in his Canadian debut on Monday evening at Mohawk
Racetrack.
Rick Zeron has recently taken over the training on the three-year-old son of Andover Hall-Megavite, who is owned by the Lightning Stable of Roosevelt, NJ.
Lightning Thor spent the majority of his Monday evening assignment parked out, but he showed a great deal of grit down the lane when he drew off to win by more than five lengths in a career-best clocking of 1:57.1.
“He has a problem; he’s not traveling right with his left hind but we’ve got it half way there,” said trainer/driver Rick Zeron. “I trained him in 2:00 and our blacksmith changed some other shoes on him trying to get him better. He was about 50% tonight, but we’ll get the other 25% or 50% taken care of in the next week. When you’re a driver or trainer and you think you know it all, you may as well quit.”
Lightning Thor, who was a $150,000 purchase from the 2007 Harrisburg Yearling Sale, has recovered $19,000 of his price tag despite being unraced in his rookie season.
