‘Great’ Month For Fair Trainee
The month of February was a complete nightmare for Bred For Greatness as a result of seventh, eighth and ninth-place finishes, but to his credit he’s managed to do a complete turnabout in the month of March for trainer Alan Fair.
Bred For Greatness has a pair of wins and a second from three trips to the track so far this month, and includes his gate-to-wire triumph in Thursday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at Flamboro Downs.
Marc St. Louis pressed out quickly for the lead from the rail with the gelding, and that tandem led the group through fractions of :29.4, 1:00.3 and 1:30.4 before using a :30.4 closing quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Wildwild Men in 2:01.3. Etruscan Hanover rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Sent off as the even-money favourite in the six-horse affair, the five-year-old son of Federal Flex-Wendy Woo improved his 2019 record to 2-2-2 from nine trips to the track. The 12-time winner, who is owned by Elizabeth Fair and Carmelo Scime, surpassed $100,000 in earnings in the process.
Officials at the half-mile oval were forced to pull the plug on the remainder of the Thursday evening program as a result of unsafe track conditions due to the warmer weather and heavy rain. With just two races in the books, Flamboro Downs will now to wait to see what Mother Nature has in store for it when harness racing is schedule to resume on Saturday evening.
