Outlaw Watch Me Captures Prairie Lily Pace
Brian Gray’s Outlaw Watch Me managed to work her way from last to first to earn the lion's share of the $7,160 purse in the Prairie Lily Pace for Canadian-sired and owned pacing mares on Saturday at Marquis Downs
.
In the feature event of the evening, sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the Saskatchewan Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association (SSBOA), Three Promises (Barry McNaughton) laid down opening fractions of :27 and :58, but was overtaken by Willing Angel (Dallas McGee) by three-quarters in 1:28.1. Meanwhile, Outlaw Watch Me, who had gotten away last in the nine-horse field, was beginning to make up ground as she followed Isabellas Wish (Darryl Mason) three-wide. The 4-1 fourth choice found room and was able to out-pace her tiring rivals in the stretch for the 2:00.3 victory.
Bubblemint (Kevin Sampson) finished a length behind in second and longshot Alcars Xit (Philip Giesbrecht) was third.
The win was Outlaw Watch Me’s fourth in 18 outings this year lifting her earnings to $9,679 for Gray, who handles the training and driving. The seven-year-old Straight Path-Rph Notice A Bunny mare has won a total of 31 races lifetime and sports a bankroll of $76,766.
In the $2,100 Open Pace, Oakridge Rambler and owner/driver Deborah Manning sat third for most of the mile before sprinting home in :29.1 for the 1:57.3 victory by three-quarters of a length.
The favoured Dance Step (Philip Giesbrecht) journeyed first-over to finish second ahead of pacesetter Barona Fivehundred (Kevin Sampson).
