Girl Power Prevails In Preferred
P L Jill used her closing kick to perfection for driver Sylvain Filion in Monday evening’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Ben Baillargeon trainee rallied off cover in the lane and swept past foes en route to posting a 12-1 upset in a sharp clocking of 1:54.2.
P L Jill was in no hurry in the early going, but the same couldn’t be said for Cue Hall. That rival shot to the lead and laid down fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:26.2. Race favourite Dunbar Hall came first-over on Cue Hall around the final turn, but neither could fend off the late power of P L Jill. She stormed home in :27.1 to win by a length over stablemate Musical Rhythm. Free Willy Hanover was third.
Prince Lee Acres bred and co-owns the talented, six-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Fridays Gem with Jill Coleman and Alan Christensen. The victory gives her a 3-1-0 record from six starts this season. The 18-time winner added $17,000 to a bankroll that now stands at $278,033.
