NB Rivalries To Continue Sunday

Sports rivalries involving Port and Capital cities in New Brunswick have enjoyed a rich history. Another chapter will unfold when a Fredericton-based horse trainer touches down with three starters on the Sunday afternoon matinee at Exhibition Park Raceway

.

Conditioner, Stacy Gay sends out this season’s Walter Dale Memorial champion in the feature race in Saint John. All Star Dragon will attempt to tackle a tough field of pacers in the $1,400 feature race. The son of Dragon Again has enjoyed productive outings at all three of the province’s racetracks this season. In addition to the Walter Dale win in Fredericton, All Star Dragon earned a third place finish in the Robert McCain Memorial in Woodstock, and closed out ANE Week in Saint John with a rich victory in the Horse Racing New Brunswick Invitational.

Gay is a former high school hockey and senior baseball player, who is enjoying a successful standardbred training season. He has selected Stephen Trites as All Star Dragon’s catch-driver, leaving the gate from Post 6. Trites will also pilot Breeze Hanover and Escape Plan on Sunday for the same barn.

Among the tough competitors All Star Dragon will face is last week’s feature winner at EPR, B J Cruiser. Fredericton-based veteran Igoddago is also part of the eight horse field, and a three-year old-filly will also make an appearance. Dr. Hugh Baird’s Orally Yours will attempt to tackle the top class, coming off a decisive triumph over younger horses in the Bill Quigg Memorial Stakes. Scott Hubbard has the driving assignment on Orally Yours from Post 2.

There is also top class harness racing in Cape Breton Sunday afternoon. Free-for-all pacer Outlawpositivcharg will attempt his third consecutive victory in the $7,500 Inverness Invitational.

Post time for the 11-dash program is 1:00 p.m.
