Phoos Girl Guns At Flamboro
Assigned the outermost post, driver Marc St Louis sent Phoos Girl to the top and maintained control from coast to coast to take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, March 2.
The six-year-old Badlands Hanover mare cleared command from rail-starter Aint Three Ok marching to a :28.3 opening quarter. Slowing while unchallenged to a :58.4 half, Phoos Girl faced minor pressure as War Filly tipped off the rail from fifth and ranged into third passing three-quarters in 1:27.1. But the first-over challenger retreated around the turn and Phoos Girl glided to a length-and-a-half victory in 1:55.2 over odds-on favourite Aint Three Ok. Village Jamie, slipping through the passing lane, took third.
Owned by trainer Danielle Neil, Phoos Girl won her third race from six starts this season and her 22nd in 96 overall, earning $132,067. She paid $7.10 to win.
Despite broken equipment, Kiwi Focus N followed favourite Robintheatm before sliding out of the pocket and powering to a two-and-a-half length win in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace.
Driver Nick Steward ducked from post two as driver Marc St Louis sent the Danielle Neil trainee to the top in an attempt to sweep the features. She posted fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.3 on the lead under no pressure. But Steward angled the nine-year-old Jeremes Jet mare off the rail spinning into the stretch and shot by Robintheatm with ease in progress to a 1:55.3 win. Robintheatm held second from Twenty Three Red, who tracked the top two throughout, in third.
Owned by Albina Montini, Kwong Sum Low, Vincent Albanese and Joseph Rogers, Kiwi Focus N won her 22nd race from 116 starts, earning $257,817. Anthony Montini trains the $7.20 winner.
